Where does the last name of Gross come from!!!! Why do i have to get stuck with a last name of Gross....but please i would like to know what it means and where it comes from! Thanx to all who respond

Gross/Groß is a German surname. The word ´groß´ today just means "tall, big", but earlier the meaning could be even "thick" or "rich". So that surname could describe a person's appearance as well as his/her financial situation.
