name meaning
I have inquired several times over my lifetime in regards to the meaning of my last name. I would like some clarification on a possible meaning. It is of Italian origin. My family originated in San Donato Italy.Any help would be appreciated.

I'll take a guess at this one. Acchione (if properly pronounced in Italian: ak-kee-OH-neh) may be an occupational name formed from the Italian word "acchiappare" ("to catch", "to acquire"). Hence, a hunter, or perhaps even some kind of entrepreneur.
The masculine suffix "-one" usually indicates a person who engages in the activity preceded by the verb. As in "stregone", a male wizard whose name is formed from the verb "stregare", "to bewitch". The feminine version would be "strega" ("witch").
"Acchiappare" was the only Italian verb I could find beginning with "acchi-", and it's likely that "Acchione" may have been a truncated form of "Acchiapparone".

correction
"Acchiapparone" should've been "Acchiappone".
