Hi, guys. I was hugely impressed by all Merriment's info about -wyn and -wen names in Welsh down the ages, and just when I though I had it straight in my brain, along came the South African under-21 rugby team. It includes a player - extremely masculine from the photos (sigh! grrr!) - whose given name is Bronwen.
Not that this proves or disproves anything; just for your interest and to help out if you feel like hitting your heads against the wall and are looking for a good reason to do so.

I have to laugh when I see Welsh girls names on big tough boys - it doesn't happen very often. I wonder how he came by the name?
