I live in Ukraine and have a brother whose name is Askold. It was the name of the Kiev king (860-862 AC), who probably was from North (the first kings of Kieven Uktaine were vikings). So, the origin of the name Askold is Scandinavian. Probably, it was derived from Scandinavian name Hoskuld (Höskuld, Höskuldr), which is still used in Iceland. So, what's the meaning of the name Höskuld, and so the origin of the name Askold?
