Could you mean Aeolus?. Aeolus was the name of Hercules' friend on the show Hercules.

Now I've found an official Hercules show site that says it's spelled like Iolaus. Do you think this is just a variation?

I believe it's a mispelt variation - the names are pronounced the exact same way.

The meaning of Iolaos

It is derived from "ios" (=arrow) and "laos" (=people), hence meaning the weapon or strength of the people. Iolaos od Boiotia was Hercules' sidekick.
