"Nye" surname

Does anyone know where the surname NYE originates from? Any info, would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email me at missnye@hotmail.com Thank you very much!

According to PH Reaney, Nye is an English surname derived from the Middle English words 'atte' and 'ye, eye'. This then became 'atte nye, neye'. 'atte' means 'at' and 'ye,eye, nye, neye' means "low lying land". So the surname would mean "dweller by the low lying land".
