Alvina (Alwina, Alvine, Alwine) is a female form of the male name Alvin / Alwin, which is short for either Alfwin (Old High German: elf + friend) or Adalwin (Old High German: noble + friend).
The name became very popular in Germany in the beginning of the 19th century but was used earlier as well. I have no idea from which century it was used.
