The name "Mara" is Hebrew for bitterness. (Although it's still a very pretty name! You might want to look in a bible to find out if there was a biblical Mara.)

I think Naomi at one point says, "Call me not Naomi, call me Mara" when she is sad. Or, it may have been Ruth--I can't remember clearly and am to lazy to check!
