Archivesname meaning
My fiancee has a unique name. I was wondering if anyone knows the meaning and/or origin of it. His name is Tyrel. He is a white male of German decent, though I do not think that is much of a factor with it. He was told it came from an old American Western movie, in which one of the character's was named Tyrel. I am interested in any information regarding his name. Thank you in advance. Dori

Tyrrell
This surname is derived from a French Christian name, and the first of the family was Hugh Tyrel, who acquired lands at Castleknock in Dublin and in Fertullagh in Westmeath in the 1170s and 1180s. Hugh was probably the son of Rocelyn Tyrel of Herefordshire in England. Tyrrellspass, County Westmeath, takes its name from Captain Richard Tyrrell, one of the Irish commanders in O’Neill’s rebellion of the 1590s, and commemorates a famous victory by Tyrrell against the English there. Today Tyrrell is still very much a Leinster surname, and is especially strong in Kildare and Wicklow.

tyrel comes from the celtic god tyr. But louis lamour did have a character in his books named Tyrel. That is who I was named after.

Yes that is true. The name of the Western is "The Sackettes". It was originally a book writen by Louis L'Amour. I think that is how to spell his name. The movie stars Tom Selleck, Glenn Ford, Sam Elliot and Slim Pickens as 'Tyrel'.
