Re: MAGDALENA a hairdresser?
in reply to a message by Andy ;—)
That is weird... I've always been told Jesus' mother was a hairdresser... And in France hairdressers (and florists lol) have a reputation of "easy" women...

What you say about Mary being a hairdresser (or the patron saint of hairdressers), is absolutely new to me. I've read that she is called upon as the patroness of the cooks, potters or gingerbread bakers (and others), but never hairdressers. And Mary a professional hairdresser herself? This seems weird to me. Where did you get this part from? Very interesting …
In Germany (female) hairdressers are generally considered a little bit stupid …

I have found something interesting on a French website. Apparently the Talmud names Mary Magdalene "Megadela" or "Megdelet", which means "hairdresser".
I've just asked my mom about Mary (the mom of Jesus). She says the Talmud calls her Miriam the hairdresser. She also says that in Middle Ages France she was sometimes referred to (by Christians) as "Marie la coiffière" (Marie the hairdresser). "Coiffière" could also be someone who makes "coiffes" (headress) or wigs, like observant Jewish women wear when they're married.

Thank you so much, Claire! Unfortunately this site does not say, *where* in the Talmud this information can be found. I'll try to contact the people who run the site.
Thanx again!
