Greek name?
Maybe I am mistaken, thinking that Tirso is a male name with Greek origin but that is all I know about it
Is Tirso, Greek? What does it mean?
Thank you!

It's a Latin name!!...
When ever I found meaning of the name Tirso it would say -Greek origin, means "crowned with vine leaves-
But then after doing a bit of research I found the Latin word thyrsus -i m. [the stalk of a plant; a wand , as carried by Bacchus and his attendants].
So, I guess the name Tirso comes from the Latin word thyrsus, which indeed means "crowned with vine leaves".
Pls, correct me if I'm wrong :o)

Brilliant! I checked by trusty Oxford English Dictionary CD ROM and, indeed, Thyrse or Thyrsus are actual englisg words, derived from teh Latin Thyrsus, which in turn is derived from the Greek "Thyrsos". So, indeed, the name Tirso has a remote Greek anscestry :)
Thank you Pavlos!
