The ae together says a as in as, and, at - the short a sound.
The d with its stem crossed is the voiced th, as in those (not the voiceless one as in thistle).
As for your Sarah, the Scottish translation of Sarah is Morag, which is said to mean Princess but is more like Great Lady, the mor- being: great. Perhaps that helps?
