I was of the same opinion as Collis J Hillman, Collis comes from the latin col, collis meaning small hill.

My first name and my mother's first name is Collis. It was also my great grandmother's name. Usually it is a male name. I always thought it was latin for hill - as in colliseum. Good luck in your search.
