1) The significance of the suffix "el" is it's one of the names of G!d
2) Satan is Ha-satan, the "prosecuting attorney" angel, nothing more. He is not mentioned in the Torah portion of the Tanakh (what you guys call the "Old Testament") but he appears occasionally in the other portions.
You might be able to glean some more info on one of the other websites I subscribe to (although it's mostly pagan, you can find out stuff from the resident expert on Judaism [aka bananabrain or bb]) on the Mothers Magic forums (http://www.mothersmagic.net/forums).
