Re: I need help with these Finnish names-Satu?

Raija – maybe the Finnish form of the Russian name Raja (English spelling Raya) meaning ”paradise” (just a guess!)
Tarja – is a Finnish form of the name Darja (Darya) which is used in Russia as well (that’s a form of Daria)
Kalevi – that’s a form of the name Kaleva who is said to be a mystic hero from the prehistoric times. I don’t know the meaning of the name, but the name of the Finnish National Epic “Kalevala” is related. It means “land of Kaleva”.
Ahti – Ahti Lemminkäinen is another name from the “Kalevala”. He’s a son of Kaleva and one of the three heros of the epic, but I don’t know the meaning of his name. He’s called “funny Lemminkäinen” all the time and isn’t very serious.
Maybe Lassia has got some more informations?
