looking for the meaning of Iddon
I inherited the middle name of Iddon from my father. He died without ever knowing the origin and I have been searching all my life for a book that might give me the answer. I am white and English if that helps and I once saw the name spelt Idon on a lorry from the North of England. Please can anyone enlighten me?

Iddon (pronounced ithon (th as in the, not think) is a Welsh name, derived from iud 'lord' + on (diminutive ending). Perhaps the meaning is best interpreted as 'little lord'. The idd is the same as the udd in Welsh Gruffudd/Maredudd.
However if the name is only pronounced id'n in your family, you probably need to try a book of English surnames or placenames. You should be able to find such a book in your local library, or, if you live near a large university, in the university library. Or you could always try a bookshop :).

Thanks very much for that interesting meaning. It somehow doesn't fit with me though. My family is of Jewish descent and my middle name is pronounced Id'n. My father didn't know how he came by it so unless I find out otherwise that will do for me.
