Hi i love this website, some friends recommended it to me saying that it was the most accurate, but how are you supposed to know!! My friends ask me what their name means, and every site i go to seems to be different!!!!!

The thing is that some names do have several meanings they are fond in different countries look and sound the same but their origins are different ie
Cara 1 from the Celtic =freind
2 italian =dear
3 vietnamese =diamond,precious jewel
whos to say one meaning is the right one

Name sites, books etc that just give a meaning and don't support it with evidence are suspect. That's what makes this site so good - you get the history and the origins and any extra information that's available, and if a meaning is unknown, Mike C the Great doesn't mind saying as much. Lots of authors just invent something, anything, thinking this makes them look better informed - no doubt your 4 boys know the story of the Emperor's new clothes?
Actually, everyone's name has the same meaning: the best name possible chosen by loving parents for their own wonderful child. On Babycenter someone pointed out that you get blonde Melanies and dismal Joys! But it is fun, finding out accurate information, and the posters on this site are (mostly) remarkably accurate and very well informed.
