Everyone...
...Has anyone noticed that tempers seem to be rather awful lately? Here and on the baby board, people are calling names and "yelling" at each other. Are you all feeling tense or uptight or something? Is this in your other relationships, too? Y :\

More to everyone...
Mebbe it's the holidays, but Pavlos, Daividh, all you "oldies", was it like this last year? And I'm not talking about the blunter people online, I mean allofasudden people have come on and started calling those people names, etc. When I first came on, no-one called names, and general good spirits prevailed. Now it seems everyone is mad. Say mebbe two/three weeks ago, it was still all calm, now I'm afraid to post anything that isn't "fluffy".
Hmm, just a thought, was anyone tense before 9/11? I was.
Y :)

Just like everything, this board experiences cycles: From time to time, pestillent hordes invade with, at best, completely out-of-topic scheitte such as "Do you agree that Sahaara is a cool name for a boy?" and at worst, insults. At least once a year things turn out of hand, and we perform ritualistic exorcism. Thankfully, they eventually leave. From time to time, genuine psychos and lunatics also post, but they generally give us all a good laugh (truly deranged folks such as Elaine and Eagle Beak are lovable cult personalities in retrospect!) And the good news is that bright and helpful folks such as yourself seem to stick around ;)
Thanks, Pavlos! Actually, my family gets on my case for hogging the computer too much! Y :)
Mine too!!....
and I agree with Pavlos: we've seen ups and downs here, periods when everyone was urbane, witty, helpful, and got along well (or was that just my impression during those Vicodin binges?) and some periods just the opposite when many of the regulars took brief hiatuses until the prepubescent unwashed got it out of their systems and moved on.
Actually, there have been many good times, but also others when me, Pav, Nan, and anyone else we could muster did our best to slam-dunk the annoying gum-popping little twerps off the board. And yes, "rude", even "vicious", has its place when you're pushed so far. (Nanaea does "vicious" better than anyone!!)
But other than 6 fewer Christmas shopping days than last year, I don't know why everyone seems so short-tempered. Perhaps it's the shaky economy, or the mega-SUVs on yer bumper, or the relentless barrage of "what do you think of this fab unisex name?" questions that somehow just won't migrate to the baby board. Your guess or mine...
And I share Pav's sentiments -- we're glad you and the rest of the good-natured, incredibly knowledgable folks who've favored us in the last few months are here!
- Da., who signed his name on company Christmas cards a full 900 times today and is waiting for the feeling to return in his arthritic hand.
(Dear Gawd - he's also getting old and senile - he agreed with Pavlos TWICE!! Oh the shame...)

Why, thank you, Daividh. You do realize that you invoke me (like Satan!) everytime you mention my name? Spooky, idn't? ;)

Well Nan, you've always done "spooky" almost as well as "vicious". Hey, we've missed ya around here! Some of these newbie chilluns have never seen "the real deal" in action...
Stay in touch, ya hear?
Da.

Thnx, Nan! You've got a point there...Not much there IS to see! Y :D
i am reather new here. and i have been to other baby name sights, but it seems like the people here are very rude with their comments. noone should expect that everyone is going to love every name they do, but there is a nice way and a mean way to express your differences.
"Rudeness"
I'd like to address the issue of percieved rudeness on the boards. Personally, I agree that some people on these boards can be blunt. I also think some people can be very fluffy in their comments and offer no more than a yes or no opinion on a name as well. Personally, I would prefer the latter rather than the former. Even if someone is "rude" about their comments, at least they are honest. Perhaps that's not the response a stranger off the street would give, but it is the honest reaction of someone online, and a reaction your child is likely to experience witht the name.

this means that you want people to just give yes or no answers.
how about instead of just telling someone how horrible name is give them a good reason and give them some other ideas. instead of just making them feel like the stuidest creature that ever walked the earth

Ah, you know. They say the holiday season ...
... is the most stressful time of the year!

I think its high time for our annual exorcism :P
Alas, poor Pavros,
You well know we've tried to exorcize the "hey-baby-board-what-do-you-think-of-this-terminally-transmogrified-boy's-name-it's-my-total-FAVE-for-a-girl!" interlopers before, but they somehow stick to this venerable and scholarly message board like mildewed chewing gum under a theatre seat. Truth is, most of em are hopelessly hot for Mike C...
The fierce and heroic Wizzygoths would have had a quick and final solution to this problem (mountains of skulls figure in there somewhere), but we now live in different times. RUDE, therefore, may be the last legit refuge of the truly onomastical.
Unless we can get Mrs. Peel to swing by for a spot of satanic consulting work...?

Oy, Bro'Da!
They indeed have developed nasty antibodies and are resilient to exorcism, antibiotics and all known fungicides. Gone are the heroic days of our valiant Wizzy ancestors. Ah, the good old days when etymologists were etymologists and baby nukers were duly *corrected* by their grinning headmasters.
Even "Ms. Leper" must have abandoned hope, shiffting her consulting work o darker pastures....

No, I'm just always a smart mouthed punk.
