creativity!!
people are being creative, let them be.
if you wanted to call your kid kaitlynn or dain no-one would bash you on the head with a stick.
who wants to be boring and traditional???
and besides, everyone knows that if you call your kid john he'll turn out ugly - i know about 10 johns and they all deserve a paper bag.

I resent your comment about 'John'.
i know alot of johns, most of them my uncles and not one of them is ugly. it's not being very kreatyv to be one of many in your class named caitlin or nowadays emily and jacob. and some of these names are 'cute' but not something i'd want as an adult. names tell alot about a person. what is so wrong with traditions?
I agree with you about the kre8tive spellings! I think people get carried away. There are only so many ways to spell Mackenzie...but people never give up...LOL! I saw it listed with the spelling...Myquenzie on another site...it may have been a joke, but silly regardless.

i saw that one too some where. i think they were being truthful too. i'm sick of people associating mackenzie with a girls name. i mean it does have mac- in it which means son of.
Actually No!
The Boy's names given to girls thing is okay depending on the name. I know girls named Taylor, Ashton, Ashley, Alex, Billi, and Bobbi.
I don't see myself doing it but I don't care if other's do.
Actually I think "Kreatyv Spellings" are kind of cute. Elyza, Candyce, Carmyn, and my fave Jazzmin.
As for the made up names... as longas they sound niceit's cool but it starts sounding kind of funky then we have a problem
For example one of best friends' name is Taniqua (tuh NEE kwuh). She hates her name. I do too. It's almost as bad as her
little sister's name, Tashanawa. their oldest sister has a made up name but it is pretty: Tishira (Ti SHY ruh).
As long as the name is pretty it's okay. Camaya= cute. Atifiquandria=not cute
Speaking of made up names... In highschool, there was a girl in my P.E. class named MyFila Adida Jackson!
Honest to God truth. As iin the Shoes Filas and Adidas!

I was just wondering how old is that girls sister that is also maned tishira without tha H. mine is pronounced (tish-eye-rah).
Surely there are enough male and female names in the world without parents having to torture their children by messing around with names.
Why is it considered old fashioned or boring if I choose to give my children good old standard family names? And what is the obsession with being unique? Calling your daughter John, Paul, George or Ringo may make you unique but it also makes you look pretty silly!

i think the old-fashioned names are alot more 'unique' nowadays. personally i find them much better too. i just hear some of these names and think that this child is going to have major problems when they get older. a name is the firsy gift a parent gives.
My name is Carole & people always write it Carol & i am forever correcting people or telling them Carole with an "E" on the end. although i prefer my name spelt like this,it does get annoying So i think any name i choose for my kids will be spelt normal, as i dont want my kids spending half their life explaning their name.
The end!! lol
The end!! lol
that is one of those names where it is okay becuase carole is another spelling. unlike if it were spelled kcaewroughl, but i can see the problem
I love the name Alexis for a boy, I know two Alexis' (both adults) one male and one female and the female Alexis was named this because it was masculine but I constantly hear no that's too girly or that's a girl's name. This annoys me no end, especially since it seems most of the boy names I like are considered too feminine.
i'm the same way with ashley. i love it for a guy, but not so much for a girl.

I know like 5 Jordan's and 4 of them are girls (some spell it Jordyn)
My cousin named her daughter Ise (Iss-ee)
My gramma named my aunt Dannysse (like Denise)
and my cousin is named Shaianne! (Shy-anne)
and like my best friend is due also n she wants to name her daughter Lariabeth (which I dont understnad-pronounced Lah-ree-ah-beth)
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

i think it's sick. i don't know what they think they are doing. you can spell it KHAEITLYIEN or CAITLYN, but they both sound the same when read out loud. one is just alittle less intelligable. i don't see how that is being different. as far as the boys. they are going to end up with no masculine names at all. seems like all you have to do is put a 'y' in a name and all of a sudden it is feminine.

I've seen, as an example "I liek Davyd for a gurl, see the y makes it gurly" (misspelling intentional)

i use to post at a baby name forum and we would joke around about this alot. i want to give our children family names when we have them. but we don't have alot of feminine names. so, i said (jokingly of course) why not just add a few 'y's and it will be feminine. my husband's father was named Roland Nilson. for a boy i am very settled on Rolandd, but if we have a girl first it would be nice to name after him also. so i thought we could use Nylsanne or Rolynn. pretty sick, huh? i would not really do that. i can find a real name
Landyn, Jordyn etc. GAG!
As Silver points out, it depends on the level of creativity. Eryn and Linzi are fine, but why would anybody make their 6-year-old sweat when spelling Ashleigh is beside me. And something else - my experience has shown that the majority of people sitting in the front of the SSA, DMV or the bank are... hm... not among the fastest thinkers known to mankind. Why confuse them and waste your time while they are searching for your daughter Micheal (pronounced like Michelle) in the database :o)
I dont like surnames used as christian names except as a middle name and then only if there is a family connection ie mothers maiden name
And i admit i hate it when someone gives their daughter a boys name when there are so many great female names to choose from
I also find many made up names to be totally frightful but Some made up names are pretty some will even stand the test of time after all names like
Geraldine-Wendy -Vanessa -Christabel-all began as invented names
Guess im a little behind the times but then iv never wanted to be trendy iv always preferred the old names family names

ugh, i hate these last names used as first names. i think they look so trendy and will very soon be so outdated and cutesy that these poor people will rush to the clerk of courts to choose something more appropriate for an adult
-doesnt see the problem-
With guys names being used as girls names, I do have a problem, because somenames which were male in origin, are now seen as female. They are taking good names from boys, and leaving boys open to the possibility of ridicule because a girl shares their name. Plus, its never done oppositly. There was an interesting conversation aroused by this very contreversory before on this site, not to long ago. i really have a bad memory, so maybe someone else can help you with that much.
Creative spelling really depend on the name, and 'how creative'. I personally don't like people 'destroying names', for eg. names that are used by stars, sports players, shows, characters etc etc and ppl automatically relate that name with that person. Its great if its a positive reference, but if that personality goes on a drug binge, it reflects on children with that name. when people alter spellings to the point they are not legible, and people constantly pronounce the name wrong, this is frustrating for the child, and relativly cruel. When people say "i found/made a NEW name" when all that happened is they can't spell... and they come on here saying whats the meaning... it hurts my brain to keep things polite. Simply alterations like Chrystal, to Krystal, i think can be good, the child has a bit more individuality. Personally, growing up with a VERY common name, I wish my parents altered the spelling (specifically to reflect my gaelic heritage). But when people take Allison to Ahlysun, or something like such, u just destroyed a usable name.
Again with made up names, it depends. I am getting tired of people taking common names and suffixs and adding 'la' or something like such to the front and calling it a new name reflective of their heritage... its really not... its you adding 'la' to a name.Sometimes when people do something like take the name of two grandfatehrs and murge them, it can be quite handsome/pretty, and has some meaning...

i know what your saying!!!! my parents did basically the same thing! i hate it because no one at first glance will be able to say my name and it takes a bit of coaching on how to say it. Esepially teachers. i have had one teacher for 3 years know and he can not say it right. but its pretty close. but one girl this year was trying to correct it for me and im like, look he hasn't been able to get it right so whats the use! then theres the spelling in school. Think about this: your making invitations to your child's b-day party. there are 3 people name Ashley. One spells it Ashleigh. anouther spells it Ashli and the third spells it Ashley (the normal way). You need to look up every name or ask how to spell it!!!! and wasn't there a mother ,a while back, who had a kid named Olivia but spellt it Uhlyvia or some form of that?? i mean you had to take like a minute to look at it and pronounce it. with my name i can always tell at the beginning of the school year, when they are calling my name for roll call. AHHH!!!! i m babbling too. i gotta go rest.
lot of ppl bringing up the name Ashley
a lot of ppl are bringing up the name Ashley
which is ironic, because that is my name
personally I don't have a big problem with Ashley, Ashlee, and Ashleigh, but Ahshli... thats getting a little wierd
I wish my parents named me Ashlea (pronounced Ahsh-lay instead of the usual ahsh-lee) because this is the gaelic form of the name, and my backround is mostly gaelic. Althought it would of been pronounced and spelt wrong a lot, I wouldnt have minded.. most people spell my name wrong anyways, I got Ashle and Ashly the most.
And the only Ashlea i know, has people call her Ashley, except for her gaelic grandparents which can't really help it because of their accent. It really depends situation wise, but I have 9 ashley's in my grade alone, that is counting variations in spelling. I have had up to 4 ashley's in my classes, including me. Needless to say y'all know why i have a bizzarre obsession with unique and original names now!!

Don't be sorry, I quite agree! However, there are always exceptions. Like if I've known a really nice girl with a boy's name, I usually like that name for a girl 'cause I link it with her. And I know a girl named Aysha and a deaf girl named Kandace, and those aren't too bad. But when you mess a name up so everyone spells it wrong/says it wrong, that's mean to the kid, and annoying to the kid's friends. Y :)
