I've always wondered what the origin of my name is. It's not a family name or anything, my father saw the name on the tag of a woman working in a store shortly before I was born. I was fortunate to meet her later on, but she did not seem to know the origin either. She pronounces hers Kar-lee and I pronounce mine Kary-lee. Does anyone know anything about the etymology of this name?

I know the etymology of MY name. My mother's family is primarily of Swedish origin, and the name Carol is spelled Karyl. I am named after my aunt Karyl, therefore Karylee. This may ultimately be the origine of this spelling of the name for others as well.

If she pronounces it "Kar-lee" it could very well be a creative spelling of Carly, in which case that would be the origin of your name.
