can't find my name, either
My given name is “Arma.”
I am female and was named after my grandmother, who was born in Mississippi around 1900. I understand that she was named after an older relative herself.
I have always heard that “Arma” is an old Southern name, but I recently met a young student of South American descent whose name was also “Arma.” Because so many Spanish settled in the American South (including Mississippi) centuries ago, the name might have Spanish origins which made their way to the South AND to South America.
I would love to know about this name – the closest I have ever come is that someone told me it was Latin for “weaponry,” but that seems a little violent for folks to use for little baby girls.
