Chulpan
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the name Chulpan?
I know that actress Chulpan Khamatova is from Tatarstan province (Russia) but I'm guessing that the name is not Russian, but of Arabic origin like many names in ex-Sovies states...
TIA!

Morning Star
Chulpan means "morning star" in Tatar.
I found this meaning on the following pages about Turk deities:
http://www.ethnikoi.org/tengrianism.htm
I tried to confirm this and found a page in Russian about the mentioned Tatar actress that explains her name as "morning star" right in the first sentence:
http://www.rusactors.ru/h/hamatova/index.shtml
"Чулпан" по-татарски значит "утренняя звезда"

thanks a lot!!!
It's a Tatar name and the Tatars belong to the Turkish people's group (they are related to the Turks, the Mongolians, etc., but not the Arabs). I'm afraid no one here knows Tatar, but I'll try to look for a meaning!
