Some daft Brit wrote a poem about the river Shannon (19th century I imagine) and stuck a D into it - Shandon - so that he could rhyme it with the bells that sound so *grand on* the *land on* either side, or something equally odd. So maybe there's a link, or just great minds thinking alike ... !

Shandon is a area in Cork city.This is what the song is about not the Shannon.Shandon probably means "Old Fort" -Sean Dún.
