Why is naming a kid after someone bad?!
I've often heard people say that you'd better not name your child after someone, like a relative, artist or celebrity. It would bring bad luck or something similar.I'm wondering.... why is that? How come most people think that? Thanks to whoever is willing to explain that to me. :-)Regards,Lu

I'm Jewish, and in my faith you can't name someone after someone living.

People get named after relatives all the time and nothing bad happens. If most people thought it was a bad idea, they wouldn't do it themselves. (Judge them by their behaviour, not by what they say they believe.)What is unfortunate is when gazillions of infants get named after a rock star who then dies of a massive overdose, or - worse - after a character in a soap opera. In both cases, it says that their parents had no imagination, no taste, no independence of mind and no sense. That is bad luck, but it doesn't bring bad luck.

In some cultures, it may associated with bad luck. But not in most. I am not sure, however, that 'most people think that' :)

I know a kid called Nick Carter (after the BSB) and I'm sure that there are also George Michael's walking around. What happens when the 'star' is not popular anymore?
