Name
I am wondering what my last name means?
Replies
I'm not entirely sure but it may be taken from the English surname Clandon meaning "from Clandon, Surrey'.
Clandon means "clean hill, hill free from weeds and other unwanted growth" from the Old English elements claene "clean" + dun "hill".
Otherwise it may be from a now extinct place name meaning the same but with 'dun' "hill" replaced by the Old English place name element 'tun' "farmstead, village".
Either way I think it describes a person who hails from a village, town in England (Clandon, Surrey or now unknown Clanton).
I hope this helps :)
