How do you know it means this?? I have been looking everywhere and have come up with nothing. It seems od to me that it would mean that, because it was a common name at one time... and people (especially in France) would not name their kids this.

Lestat means one of life and bold, but most of all, Lestat was a typo. anne rice really meant to name him Lestan after her husband, and there was a typo, hence Lestat. You can see Lestan used in Tale of the Body Thief, as Lestats alais, Lestan Gregor.
