Mia: girls name as it is used in Germany
I recently read on a German message board that the name Mia means peace. Unfortuantely, I do not know Germam (I was able to translate the posting using an Internet tool). I understand that Mia is used in Scandinavian countries as a given name. Please help me to know its German usage. Does Mia mean peace when used in German?

She probably got confused with German and Russian, on the assumption that one foreigner is probably much like another - didn't Columbus take an Arab along in case he found Japan?
In Russian, mir = peace I think, but as a word, not a name. Except for spacecraft ...

I think I found that post with the "Mia=Peace" information on the German Zappybaby message board. The posters there are mostly expecting mothers discussing possible names for their offspring. No source information is given.
I checked: There doesn't seem to be even a single German-language website with information about given names (there are around 40 or 50 such sites) that offers the meaning "peace" for Mia. Most do not carry the name anyway because it is probably very rare in Germany.
So it really is mysterious where the poster got her informations from...

Sounds as if you have found the message board that I found.

Mia does not mean 'peace' in German. The German for peace is frieden. The German name meaning 'peace' is Friede (click hyperlink for information).
Click here: Mia for the origins of this name. Also, 'mia' means 'mine' or 'my own' in Italian (as a word, not a name).

Because message boards are often very bad and unreliable (but you can almost always trust this one!)
