Hello Jody Dobson. My name, believe it or not, is Jody Dobson. I am a 59 year-old man and here's what I can tell you -- it is your name and it is a good name. I too have struggled with the name (a nickname for Joseph) at many points in my life. I tried changing it to Joe - when I went to camp at age 11, college at 18 - but now I am happy with the uniqueness of the name, and I can joke about the mistakes that people still make about it, and it is me. As it will be you. I don't know where you live - but in the south, it is quite a common name for men. Have you read "The Yearling" by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings? It is where my mother found the name. Be proud.

hey, I'm a guy named Jody also. I'm 31 and a social worker. I hated my name growing up cuz I was repeatedly told it was a girl's name also. It may suck for ya now, but later on you may find that having a name as unique as "Jody" when you're a guy can pay off. It's a unique name, and it makes for a unique person. later on, the girls may love you for it.

Ask ANY soldier in the Army and he will tell you that "Jody" is the fictional guy in the marching and running songs we sing that is back with our girfriends and driving our cars. Run "Jody Calls" on Yahoo search and see what I mean.I also had a close friend - a guy, who was named Jody. Its very much a guy's name. Girls with the name are considered "tom-boys" from where I'm from.14 year-old kids are only looking for ANYTHING to make fun of. Don't let them get to ya.

In the good ol' US Army, we always had marching songs that were sung to help you keep in step. There were dozens, at least, but they were all referred to as "Jody calls", because many of them were about how this guy named Jody was at home stealing your girlfriend while you were out here marching with a rifle for Uncle Sam."Jody" in the songs was a very masculine image (else why would your girlfriend cheat on you with him?). Check out "Jody call" on a search engine to see what I mean. The teen years are hell, dude, but you'll live through em. Hang in there!

I know Jody as a name for boys because, back in the 70s I think, there was a motor racing champion from South Africa called Jody Scheckter. That is not a profession for wimps! I think his name was Joseph or something, then he got called Joe, and then Jody sort of followed on from that. (You could probably find out about him on the Internet or in a library.) Sorry you're running into trouble - what a kind idea to warn other people. I do hope it helps other kids later.

Well, you're the first guy that I know of with the name Jody. All the Jody's I know are females. If you don't like your first name, go by your middle name, or perhaps your initials make a cool nickname.

Jody can surely be used as a boy's name. Here in the Netherlands, we've got a famous singer called Jody Bernal. It's no weird name at all.Regards,Lu
