If you want unique names for your characters then I would steer clear of William, it seems like every book I have read that has an english male character in it is called William! Why not something else like Joseph, Phillip, or Marcus?
For the mermaid it has to be something water-related like Oceana, or Eau (french for water).
For the earth fairy take leads from the greats like Shakespeare, his fairy was called Ariel, so maybe something like Ariella, or Arielette. I don't know just my opinion. Hope I have helped in some small way, good luck :)
