I named my daughter Siobhan. I fell in love with the name via my grandfather who was a fan of the Irish actress Siobhan McKenna. My understanding is that it Gaelic for Joan (the feminine for John). In Spanish it is Jovana.

Siobhan
"Scottish Forenames" (Donald Whyte) says:
"SIOBHAN (f) Gael. A rendering of Judith which apears also as Siubhan, Shavon, Shavonn, Shervan and Shevonne. The phonetic mode is Sh'vaun. In Ireland it is often an anglicised form of Susan, and Judith can be synonymous with Julie. Siobhan McKenna (1923-86) was a famous Irish actress. Today actress Siobhan Redmond appears in many TV productions."
"Celtic Baby Names" (Judy Sierra) says:
"Siobhán f. (shi-VAWN) From the Norman French name, Jehanne, a feminine form of Jehan (the equivalent of the English John). A nickname is Siobhánín (shi-VAWN-een)."

The two websites I use for Irish names (one of which is this one) both say Siobhan is derived from Jehanne (in which case it does not mean Jehanne, rather it means whatever Jehanne/John is derived from).
