Most native English speakers (the people with whom you'd use this name, presumably) don't know squat about "Carmen" except that she was some character they're unfamiliar with in an opera whose libretto they don't know by a composer they can't remember. Americans especially are ignorant of opera, and I don't suppose most Aussies are much better.
So what I'm saying is, use the name if you like it! It's a pretty name and you should get no teasing from gwai loh (is that term even used anymore?)..
