HER-ee = hairy. If you read the pronunciation guide you'll see the E represents the vowel found in bet or care, which is the same as the vowel in hair.

One more note to explain further... I say it more like the word err - Herr-eeVs. the word Air- Hair-ee

The pronunciations on this site . . .. . . are American. So to those of us from England/Australia the vowels in Mike's transcriptions don't always make sense :-)

ok but when I pronounce HER-ee with the E in the word bet - it doesn't sound like Hairy.It sounds more like Hurry. But it's a combination of the two.
