It seems likely to me that Clell [sic] Miller's name was a shortened form of a more formal name like McClellan. His brother's name was Ed so I'm not sure if his parents were likely to take an inventive detour in baby-naming.
Of course, given his fate, Clell's name might be Norse or something for "shoot me in the face, dude."
