Elias - Benomi
I did not see these names on the list, does any one out there have the meaning and origin of them.
Elias is my father's middle name. In the family, I recall that someone said that he was named after someone in the bible. But have not been able to get to mine to find it.
Benomi seems to crop up here and there among my fellow genealogy researchers.
Thank you

Elias = Eliyahu.
Benomi reminds me of Bonem, a Yiddish name coming from the French "bon homme" and meaning "good man". http://www.hebrewletters.com/item.cfm?itemid=2697
It could also be Benoni: http://www.hebrewletters.com/item.cfm?itemid=32953

Just click on Elias, which you could have found very efficiently by using the search facility on the Home page and looked clever instead of lazy.
Are you sure it's Benomi and not Benoni?

Hello Anneza: Sorry I did not know that I would not get an acknowledge in my inbox about these queries I had made back in March.
Thank you for responding. Miss Claire also responded and I have read them today.
Thank you both for taking time to give me information about the names. There was a story that my Dad told that he was named for Elias of the Bible. But when I went to a CD ROM that I purchased it had nothing on Elias. Benomi is a name of several persons in my family MILLS here and there. Also it is also found on other databases on RootsWeb.com, those of us researching family history.
One did ask the meaning of Benomi, and I just remember reading somewhere that it meant "Child of Sorrow". But some of those that were named same, I could not see any reference about sorrow or times of such in their particular family situations.
One child so named, it seems, that a child of 16 had a child with her Uncle, and it was named. They were both advised of their misdeed and she kept the child and raised it with a new husband. That particular branch of the MILLS family so far has not connected to my direct paternal line.
Thank you both once again.
