Etymology of the name IBBOTSON
I am trying to find the etymology of the surname IBBOTSON. I have read that is derived from a 13th century saint but also that it is related to the name Isobel. Could you tell me it's origin and meaning?

According to one source (Story of Surnames by L.G. Pine), Ibbot was a pet form of Isobel, hence "Ibbotson" would be Isobel's son. It's interesting though, that similar or identical surnames often seem to have originated independently from different roots, not unlike convergent evolution.
