I suspect that Lasierra is a "Frenchified" version of "Sierra". "Frenchification" of names is quite populat in the States, primarily with African-American names (eg. LaToya, LaVonda etc.)
So this leaves us with the Spanish word sierra, which is derived from the Latin "serra" meaning "saw". According to the OED, "In Spain and parts of Latin America: A range of hills or mountains, rising in peaks which suggest the teeth of a saw"
