"Virsaviya"
I've always been told that "Virsaviya" (or spelled Virsavia) is the Russian/Greek virsion of Beer-sheva - King David's wife from the bible. Does anyone happen to know how true that is? If you know anything about the name, please tell me. I've never met another Virsaviya, but I do know that it is a real name - there are different pieces of artwork titled "virsavia" the most famous of which is Rembradts. But if you know anything, anything at all, please email me at Baranessa87@yahoo.comMany thanx,
Vira

[Genesis 21:31] Wherefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they sware both of them.[Regum 3:20] And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that ...Therefore, Beersheba looks to be a place name. Its spelling in Slavonic/Russian is Virsavia indeed, following the new Greek pronunciation.

Both the place and the woman are named Virsaviya in the Russian bible. I looked it up in an onlie Russian version on http://www.maranatha.org.ua/bible/index.php?book=-3&search=%E2%E8%F0%F1%E0%E2%E8%FF&Submit=%CD%E0%E9%F2%E8

I don't know about Russian/Greek forms of the name, but David's wife was called BATSHEVA. BEERSHEVA is a place-name ("well of oath" or "Well of seven").So the change from T to R would be remarkable. But indeed Rembrandt's painting "Virsavia" shows Batseba …Andy ;—)
