Does anyone know where they the state New Jersey got its name from!? where it origanited?

It was named after the island of Jersey, one of the Channel Islands controlled by the UK in the western part of the English Channel.
The other major island in this group is Guernsey; both gave their names to breeds of dairy cows as well as to the Garbage State.
