"Sylvan" can mean "characteristic of a wooded area" as an adjective or more appropriately "a person or spirit who lives in the woods" as a noun. I believe the initial word origin is Latin.
The most famous occurrence is in "PennSYLVANia", which means "[William] Penn's Woods".

Yep, it is Latin. "Silva" means woods or forest in Latin. So "Sylvan", I assume, is the American adjectivization of that word.
I think I just created a word.

I agree, but you never really create just ONE word around here. By the time the Anagram Smurfs get done with it, you've fostered half a dozen words or more from that simple act of creation.
Heheh. "Anagram Smurf"="Grammar Snafu"
"Anagram Smurfs"="Us Grammar Fans!"
