My grandmother was from Mazurek family - so haven't you found some relative of mine? She lived in Czech republic, in Uherske Hradiste on Moravia.
Nanaea is probably right but my mother sais "mazurek" was a kind of cake; "mazurka" is also a dance - but maybe it's just a coincidence.

The surname "Mazurek" is Polish and means a person who came from the former East Prussian province of Mazury or Masuria (which is now part of Poland), or it could mean a person who came from the province of Mazowsze (also in Poland).
