Perly as a nickname for William
I'm attempting to follow the migration of Mr. Perly Wallis through MO, KY & AR cir. 1805-1815 and was wondering if Perly is a possible nickname for William.

Perly Wallis shows up at the Arkansas Post from 1808 on. He was an attorney, and always listed his name as Perly. I would be very interested to learn anything about him from you, and happy to share what I know.
I've never heard of that...but go for it! :)
I've never heard of Perly being used as a nickname for William, and couldn't begin to imagine why it might be.
Do you have reason to suspect that Mr. Wallis' given name was William? If so, then perhaps he received the nickname of Perly for another reason. For his pearly teeth, perhaps? :)
