It's best known as the poet's surname - very English, in other words not like Johnson/Jones/Johanssen etc. Looks as if it should mean Old One, though I'm not a surname expert at all.

Make that: Old Friend, like Alden. (Old One would work, but it doesn't seem to be documented, whereas Old Friend does!)
