I may not be correct, but I thought my name meant "Word of God", not "Strength of God." Does anyone know the answer???

in my book...
it says that it is a masculine name meaning 'hero of God' but the feminine form gabrielle means 'heroine of God'... er... does that help?

Calling Shay!
When you call me, I shall come :-)
But all I know is what the site says here.
The "Gavri" comes from the root which in the bible ment mostly "power" or "strength".
(today it means mostly "heroism". Also "Gvura" from the same root is another name for God.)
I don't know (and didn't find in the dictionary) any connection to "word" or "words".

Aha! You've been lurking! Glad to see you're around -- join in some more, Shay! :)
I'm lurking all the time...
Only I'm studing for an exam (Friday, on "Measurment Theorm" if it means anything to anyone. to me it doesn't...)
I promise to join more when that nightmare of a test is behind me!

Shay, are you posting from a kibbutz? I ask, because your Internet server appears to be Mishkei Hakibbutzim. When I was a teenager, I very much wanted to experience life on a kibbutz, but never really got the opportunity.

Ditto from Milwaukee and...
...too bad we can't put some sort of drug in the water that could alleviate all the "moo squishy" going on over there (If you want an explanation of the phrase "moo squishy", just e-mail me, okay? I want to be able to remain on the board.)

A theory about where the mistake came from
in the Hebrew writting of the name GABRIEL, if you change just the first letter to another, it WILL mean exactly "words of God".
Maybe this created the confusion somehow...
just a thought.
