Popularity of LARISSA in Russia
Does anybody have any information, when LARISSA appeared as a given name in Russia? (I know she was a 4th cent. Saint, but this does not automatically mean, that her name was widespread then.) And how popular has the name been in Russia in the 20th cent.? What about today?
Thanks for any bits!

Oh this is hard, it's my own name as you may know, and i do remember it being on #4 a few years ago, but according to a list i found on a Dutch site (www.voornamelijk.nl with 'elders', 'rusland') it's not in the top 10, though i was pretty sure it was...
Sorry i can't help more, wish i could..it's interesting!

Well, yes, really only bits :)
I suspect that Laris(s)a can't be among the most popular names, say the Top 10, because the following table of popular Russian names does *not* mention it:
http://www.imena.org/mias1996.html
The following table from 2004 of the names of the students of a Russian university in the Far East has the name on rank 25:

Larissa seems to be popular as well in my country: In the hitparade of names for newborns in the German speaking part of Switzerland of the year 2000 it is on rank 23 - but that wasn't the question, was it :)
