The Louette that I was at school with was named after her two grandmothers: Louise and Henriette.

I'm guessing that it's a feminine form of Louis (meaning "famous warrior"). With French names, -ette usually means "little" or signifies that it's a feminine name. So it possibly "little Louis(or Louise)" or "little Lou".

Perhaps it's Alouette ("lark") with the A lopped off, otherwise.
