Hmm sounds very Dutch..As a matter of fact, my brother's name is Auke, and i've also known a Bauke, but never a Dauke..I do believe that Dauwke is a variation of Dauke, just to make it pronouncable.. with Dauke being the original form.
I have found a Dauwe. Now you might ask, why search for Dauwe? Well, with Auke, the original form is Aue, with Bauke, the original form is Baue, so perhaps Daue would be the original form of Dauke..But i didn't find Daue without a w, but i have found it with a w, and there are 2 possible meanings:
Dauwe - South Dutch form of David OR possible variation on Douwe (with an o instead of an a)
Now for Douwe i've found: Frisian name, also possible short form of David, and it has also been 'latinized' to Dominicus.
