It reminds me of the German boys' name Brandeis. It means "dweller on a burned clearing"(http://baby-names.adoption.com/search/Brandeis.html). I also found the name Bryndis(as a female name), but I don't know the exact origin. One of the people with the name was from Iceland(so it might be a Norwegian or Danish name also).
