Jinnit is female(so the medieval names site said), but the best information for origin I could find was "European" which of course was no help. Does anyone know or have any idea about origin and/or meaning?

I've seen Jinty and Janty both as nicknames for the name Janet. I'd guess that Jinnit is another old pet name.

I thought about that. I'd pronounce it JIN-it though so I wasn't sure.
I'll go weith that idea though because that makes two of us.
