Need a little help...
Hi everybody! I was wondering if anyone could help me on a little project for me and my grandmother. I asked my grandmother the other day what my grandfather's middle name was. He always signed his name "Thomas E. Forte", and I always asumed the E was for Edward. Well, when I asked her, she said the E stood for "Espen". I never heard that name before and I, lover of unusual names, instantly fell in love with it. I asked her if he was named after someone and she said she couldn't remember. I can't ask my grandfather as he died last May.
I'm not sure of any background info, except he was born and grew up in Alabama. Our family is primarily Scotch-Irish with a little English mixed in. My baby book says the name ESPEN is Danish, though, for "god-bear". Does anyone else have any other info to share? Whether you find anything or not, thanks in advance for looking.

Here's a site which not only gives you the meaning of the name, but also invites you to enter a survey on what you think of the name:

Here's a site belonging to another Espen who seems to know quite a bit about his name (which is derived from the Old Norse name "Asbjørn"):

You might want to try e-mailing him at: self@espen.com
Good luck! :)
