Alyssa?
Could someone please tell me the history of the name Alyssa (in Europe in particular) and something about the meaning of the name? Has Alyssa anything to do with Alissa?

The alyssum flower's name literally means "kind of madder" in Latin. That meaning, in turn, derives from Greek a- "not, without" and lussa "rabies". Since rabies causes madness before causing death, the meaning could translate as "not insane".
Maybe you should go with the Alicia derivation. ;-)
